With Music Partner Harry Gambrill: America, The Multicultural Music Melting Pot Students observe and learn about musical instruments that are uniquely American and that have come to America from many diverse cultures from around the world. Students hear demonstrations of these instruments in their original settings as well as how these instruments can be used in contemporary musical applications. Instruments include: Banjo, Guitar, Snare Drum, Mandolin, Cajon, North African Tar, Celtic Bodhran, Middle Eastern Riq & Dumbek. Interactive group participation will allow students to experience an interesting variety of musical styles including: Bluegrass, Island, Rock & Roll, Latin, Middle Eastern, Reggae and Riverboat. It’s A Wonderful World Of Percussion Students will see instruments from and learn about all the different families of percussion. Students learn through interactive group participation about the origins of percussion. Students also experience percussion as it is used in a variety of musical styles from around the globe. Students also learn about modern developments such as vocal percussions and loops and get to actually play some of the instruments in a hands-on guided jam session. With Motion Partner Dahna Rohanna: Yoga In Motion This program allows pupils to ascend to a new level of physical well-being. First, the origins and history of Yoga as an Eastern health practice will be shown and discussed. Yoga In Motion then unites body, mind and spirit through musical rhythms combined with the movements of yoga postures. Students gain a greater awareness of their bodies and develop a calm and more serene attitude. Possible Curriculum Integration: Phys. Ed., Dance, Social Studies, Music |
